Tell us about you
I’m John Barra. I was born in Umbria, Colombia and moved to the UK in 1995. When growing up, natural fresh juice was always served on the table, which I missed very much when I came to London. When my first child was born, I felt motivated to start preparing healthy snacks and fresh juices. Those recipes were shared with family members and friends, who constantly gave me great feedback.
What was the story behind Dr Juice?
The moment that inspired me to start my own business was when a pop-up juice bar opened close to where I was working. This juice bar allowed me to work for them for a while, letting me learn as much as I could from the industry. And the name of my business came from when I was in the hospital waiting for my daughter’s birth.
What is your daily motivation?
My motivation is seeing the benefits that my business, Dr Juice, offers to my customers. For example, one of my customers lost five stones by walking every day from Brixton to my trade to drink a “Dreamy Detox”.
“My purpose is to offer good healthy dishes to people, to help them change the way they think about food. Because we are what we eat.”— John Barra
