Dona Berta is a local convenience shop that can be found inside the Rye Lane Indoor Market, Peckham. It has been offering a variety of Latin American products for the last six months, including popular Bolivian products and favourite snacks such as Salteñas and Inka Kola.
Tell us about you and your convenience shop
My name is Veronica Gabriel. I was born in La Paz, Bolivia, with more than 18 years of experience in working with Latin American products. Because of this experience, I felt motivated to open my convenience shop as I realised that the area of Peckham needed easier access to a more variety of Latin American products.
How did Dona Berta start, and what do you enjoy the most?
I found it very difficult to find a job because of the pandemic. However, I took this obstacle as an opportunity to start my own business and to become self-employed. Although there are challenges, It’s rewarding seeing all my customers going back home happy after finding what they were looking for.
